MARIE-CLAIRE GIRAUD
Bio
MARIE-CLAIRE GIRAUD is a genre-defying vocalist and creative force whose artistry lives at the intersection of sound, culture, and innovation.
More than a singer, she is a true Renaissance musician—blending influences with intention and style to create something entirely her own. Her signature sound, HipHopera, fuses hip-hop rhythms with the depth and power of operatic vocals, while her rich contralto voice brings a soulful elegance to jazz, reggae, and contemporary music alike.
Raised in the Bronx, New York, with Caribbean roots that deeply inform her sound, MARIE-CLAIRE GIRAUD has built a dynamic musical career that spans intimate jazz rooms, major international festivals, and iconic global stages. She has performed at the United Nations, Barclays Center (performing the U.S. National Anthem), and Central Park SummerStage, as well as internationally at the Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, Ocho Rios Jazz Festival, Cartagena Jazz Festival, and Creole in the Park in her native Dominica.
In more intimate settings, she has captivated audiences at legendary venues such as Preservation Hall in New Orleans alongside the Preservation Hall All-Stars, Blues Alley in Washington, D.C., and New York City staples including Smalls Jazz Club, Joe’s Pub, and Omar’s. Her performances are immersive and expressive—effortlessly moving between genres while maintaining a distinct and unmistakable voice.
A fearless collaborator, MARIE-CLAIRE GIRAUD has worked across musical worlds with artists like reggae icon Spragga Benz (“Rastaman Chant”) and hip-hop artist Rob $tone (“Chill Bill”), featured in RCA/Sony’s Out of the Comfort Zone series. Her reggae-influenced EP Dreamland highlights her versatility, while original works and reinterpretations of jazz standards continue to showcase her depth as both a vocalist and storyteller.
Her artistry has inspired legendary creatives as well—Jamaican icon Bob Andy wrote “Constellation” specifically for her, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Harbison created a four-song cycle tailored to her voice, with MARIE-CLAIRE GIRAUD contributing original lyrics and melodies.
Rooted in tradition yet driven by innovation, MARIE-CLAIRE GIRAUD continues to evolve as a modern musical voice—one that transcends genre, connects cultures, and delivers performances that are as bold as they are unforgettable.
